YOUNG GIRL ON THE BEACH
It was an early morning on the beach. The sun was just beginning to reveal its glory. My son Denver, clothed in his black wetsuit, was preparing to swim a mile of the Gulf's water: part one of the Gulf Coast Half-Ironman competition. Hundreds had gathered to cheer on the 2,000 athletes. In the midst of the excitement, I noticed a little girl playing in the sand. —Larry Smith
