Have fun learning to paint with Pam and Larry Smith. Together they make learning to paint fun. Larry's specialty is landscapes, color theory and playing fun music. Larry teaches both oil and acrylic painting. Pam is known for her patient ability to teach others how to create beautiful oil portraits. Pam and Larry compliment each other. They bring strong teaching dynamics to the studio/classroom, while fostering an encouraging learning environment. Classes are suited to the beginner and to the experienced painter looking to improve their painting skills.
Our next session of eight week classes will be our Winter 2014 Classes. The Winter classes start Wednesday, January 8 and Thursday, January 9.
Each three-hour, oil painting class meets one day a week, for eight consecutive weeks. You can choose from a morning, afternoon or evening class. Morning classes meet from 9am until noon. Afternoon classes meet from 1:30pm until 4:30pm and the evening classes meet from 6pm until 9pm. (To help you with a busy schedule, students have the option to make up any missed classes at any of the other class offerings.)
Our fee is $275 for 24 hours of instruction.
Painting supplies are not included in the $275 fee. Desk top easels and large easels are available for you to use in our gallery/studio. When you register for the class, a complete material list will be sent to you. Our primary supply list is for both traditional landscapes and still lifes. Pam's Portrait materials list is also offered for those who want to do portrait painting.
Painting materials run between $225 to $265.
If the desired class is sold out, you can call Larry at 404.314.3669 to be placed on a waiting list.
We have a Fall 2014 Oil Painting Workshop scheduled for early November. This workshop is perfect for the beginner to the experienced artist. Adults and teenagers. A strong emphasis on color theory. Students will have the opportunity to complete two paintings. One traditional still life. And a landscape. Demonstration on palette knife work is included. We will listen to Do-Wop music. Have a glass of wine. Explore some nearby restaurants and live-music. We will have fun.
The cost for the Oil Painting Workshop is $350 for 2 1/2 days of instruction.
Workshop dates and hours are: Thursday, November 6, 2014 - 1pm until 5pm; Friday, November 7, 2014 - 9am until 5pm; Saturday, November 8, 2014 - 9am until 5pm.
All classes meet at the new 2 Smith Art Gallery located in Historic Downtown Duluth. If possible plan a trip to the gallery/stuudio to see some great art and to speak to Pam and Larry about taking an art class.
Each year we offer four seasonal Eight-Week Sessions: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. And various workshops.
